Congress MP JB Mathur Criticizes PM Modis Gift to Italian Counterpart

Thiruvananthapuram, May 21: Congress MP JB Mathur has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for gifting ‘Melody Toffees’ to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. He stated that this issue transcends a mere diplomatic visit; it reflects the government’s attitude towards ordinary citizens.

In an exclusive interview with a news agency, Mathur remarked, “This is not just about visiting another country; it speaks to the perspective towards the common man and citizens. While the Prime Minister advises everyone to ‘work from home’ and reduce travel, he himself is busy touring, trying to project that everything is fine in India, which is far from the truth.”

Mathur expressed joy regarding the formation of the new government in Kerala. He described it as a moment of great happiness, emphasizing that the entire team is prepared for the welfare and development of the state’s people. “Now is the time to demonstrate our commitment to the public, and the UDF will move forward with full strength in this direction,” he added. He also expressed confidence that the people of the state would be satisfied with the new government’s performance.

It is noteworthy that after several days of political turmoil and uncertainty in Kerala, the allocation of departments in the 21-member United Democratic Front (UDF) government, led by Chief Minister VD Satheesan, was completed on Wednesday. This marks the formal beginning of a new political chapter in the state. Fourteen members of the cabinet, including Chief Minister Satheesan, are first-time ministers, with six leaders newly elected as MLAs. This is seen as an attempt to present a youthful and fresh leadership image for the UDF, which has also included two women ministers in the cabinet.
