New Delhi, July 19: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi have jointly written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging an independent and thorough investigation into the financial matters of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Kharge expressed that millions of devotees feel cheated after donating their hard-earned money with faith and devotion.
In their letter, Kharge and Gandhi stated, “You are well aware of the alleged embezzlement of thousands of crores from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Millions of devotees, who donated their earnings with faith and trust, feel deceived by this theft.”
The Congress leaders pointed out that the formation of the Trust was announced in Parliament under the Supreme Court‘s directive, but its members were appointed solely by the government. They highlighted that the Trust’s members are affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and related organizations. The former General Secretary, Champat Rai, was also a close associate of the Prime Minister.
Kharge and Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the Prime Minister’s silence on such a serious issue is unacceptable. They insisted that it is the government’s duty to ensure accountability and compensate for the losses incurred.
In their letter, they urged, “We request you to immediately order an independent and comprehensive investigation into the Trust’s financial matters, including the management of all donations, such as cash, gold, and silver. The investigation report and the Trust’s accounts should be made public so that every devotee knows how their contributions have been utilized.”
They also stated that anyone found guilty in the investigation should face action, regardless of their position or influence. The letter concluded that the credibility of the central government and the Trust will depend on the transparency and promptness of the actions taken in this matter.
