Congress Leader Hussain Dalwai Advocates Accountability in NEET Paper Leak Case

Mumbai, May 17: Senior Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has responded to various issues, including the NEET paper leak case and the proposal to increase the number of judges in the Supreme Court.

Supporting Rahul Gandhi’s call for accountability in the NEET paper leak incident, Dalwai emphasized that it is a longstanding political tradition in India for leaders to resign after significant events.

He stated, “In the past, when railway accidents occurred, the railway minister would resign. After bomb blasts, leaders accepted responsibility. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh also resigned. This is the tradition of democracy.”

Dalwai argued that if no one takes responsibility after such major incidents, how can the system improve? He believes that establishing accountability will encourage future ministers and administrations to act more responsibly.

Regarding the ongoing JEE Advanced 2026 examination, Dalwai noted that students naturally feel anxious. He remarked, “Students work hard day and night, but when news of paper leaks arises, they fear their efforts may go to waste. Those who receive the paper in advance gain an unfair advantage, demoralizing honest students.”

On the issue of Pakistan and terrorism, he criticized Pakistan’s support for terrorism and stressed the need for a firm stance against it. However, he added that such political messages should come from the Prime Minister or the government, not the military chief.

Dalwai stated, “It has been our tradition that the government makes statements, not the army. While the military may intervene in politics in Pakistan, India’s democratic system is different.”

Speaking about West Bengal politics, Dalwai accused the BJP of continuously pressuring former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He urged the BJP, now in power, to focus on providing relief to the people and promoting development rather than seeking political revenge.

He concluded by saying that the BJP fears Mamata Banerjee because she is a strong leader.
