Congress leader Dharmesh Saglani held in extortion case

Panaji, April 12 : Crime Branch of Goa Police has arrested Congress leader Dharmesh Saglani in connection with an extortion case, officials announced here on Tuesday. The arrest was made on Monday, a police official said. Saglani, who gave a tough fight to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in Sankhalim constituency in the recently held assembly elections, was summoned to the Crime Branch at Ribandar for questioning in the four-month-old case, and later detained and subsequently arrested. He was taken to Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital for medical examination. The arrest was made on a complaint of one Ankit Jajodia, a native of Faridabad. As per the complaint, Saglani and five others had allegedly wrongfully confined the complainant for Rs 50 lakh ransom and threatened to kill him. The incident had occurred when code of conduct was in force in the state. A FIR was registered based on the complaint and investigation started by Aggasaim police station.
