Chennai, May 6: A significant development has emerged in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. The Congress party has officially announced its support for the TVK, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, to form the government. This decision was made following a meeting of the Congress’s top leadership and the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.
Girish Chodankar, in charge of Tamil Nadu for the All India Congress Committee (AICC), issued a press release stating that Vijay had formally requested support from Congress. He emphasized that the people of Tamil Nadu, especially the youth, have delivered a clear and strong mandate favoring a secular, progressive, and welfare-oriented government. In light of this mandate, Congress has decided to extend its “full support” to TVK.
However, the party clarified that this support comes with a condition. Congress stated that no “communal forces” that do not believe in the Constitution of India should be included in this alliance.
The press release also noted that the partnership between TVK and Congress will not be limited to government formation. Both parties plan to collaborate in future local body elections, as well as Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha elections. They will commit to advancing social justice and constitutional values, inspired by the ideals of Periyar, Kamaraj, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Manickam Tagore congratulated Rajesh Kumar on being elected as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) in Tamil Nadu via the social media platform X. He remarked that in times when compromising principles has become common, Rajesh Kumar’s loyalty and integrity serve as an example.
The ongoing press release indicates that this alliance is viewed as a significant change in Tamil Nadu’s political scene. Rahul Gandhi and Vijay have jointly pledged to honor the historic mandate of the people and work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the state’s residents, particularly the youth.
