Kolkata, May 3: Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly election results, Congress state president Shubhankar Sarkar made significant statements regarding EVMs, strongroom security, and the future of politics. He asserted that there is no room for the BJP in Bengal, claiming they will not form a government.
In an interview, Sarkar stated, “In the coming days, Congress can become an alternative in Bengal. The BJP will have no chance. They cannot form a government because there is no space for them in Bengal. When the EVMs are opened, you will see. We need to remove the TMC. We need to find an alternative, and that decision will be made tomorrow.”
Addressing the ongoing controversy over strongroom security, Sarkar sharply criticized the drama between the TMC and BJP, alleging that it has the Election Commission’s backing. He remarked, “What I mean is that the drama happening under the guise of strongroom security between the TMC and BJP, which has the Election Commission’s support, should not undermine the importance of democracy.”
Sarkar’s stance on EVMs was clear. He expressed a complete lack of trust in them, questioning, “Why are developed countries not using EVMs? Why are the countries that invented EVMs not using them themselves? There are many questions regarding this issue, but the central government is pushing it forward. Until the central government is removed from power, we will not get the right answers to all questions related to EVMs. That is why I say there are thousands of questions about EVMs.”
Regarding the TMC’s virtual meeting with its leaders and workers, Sarkar commented that it is their internal strategy. He added, “Look, these are their internal strategies and directives. I have nothing to say about this. Every political party meets with its workers to give them instructions.”
