Congress Demands Single-Phase Elections Amid Voter List Concerns in West Bengal

Kolkata, February 28: Political tensions are rising in West Bengal over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. The final voter list is set to be released today, February 28, following a Supreme Court order. Shubhankar Sarkar, the President of the West Bengal Congress, shared his views during an interview.

Sarkar emphasized, “The names of genuine voters must be included in the list. No real voter’s name should be removed. If this happens, the Congress party will take to the streets. We will raise our voice against these discrepancies and will protest. We have clearly informed the Election Commission that if any genuine voter’s name is missing from the list and elections proceed in the state, it should not happen in Bengal. Everyone desires an error-free voter list. The Election Commission should take as much time as necessary to ensure this.”

He further stated, “Both the BJP and TMC are engaging in binary politics. If elections are held in 10-12 phases, they will send voters to different locations. However, if elections are conducted simultaneously, they won’t be able to do so. It’s clear that both parties are involved in vote theft. The difference is that one does it through goons, while the other relies on the Election Commission. If voting occurs in one day, they will face challenges.”

Sarkar welcomed the recent ruling by the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi, which acquitted Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in a CBI case. He accused the BJP of exerting undue pressure on opposition leaders.

He stated, “The BJP consistently attempts to pressure the opposition through unfair means. The same has happened with Arvind Kejriwal. Now that he has received a clean chit, it proves that the BJP filed false charges against him. The public should be aware of how low the BJP can stoop to win elections. The entire nation is witnessing the true nature of the BJP.”
