Coast Guard rescues distressed boat with 9 fishermen

New Delhi, March 30 : Indian Coast Guard Ship Priydarshini on Tuesday successfully rescued a stranded Tamil Nadu fishing boat FB Saint Antony along with nine crew members, the ICG informed on Wednesday. The boat was adrift 95 nautical miles away from Andhra Pradesh coast. The fishing boat had sailed from Chennai on March 13 for fishing and developed a technical snag on the main engine on March 25 and has since been drifting away from land, the Coast Guard said. The stranded boat alongwith the distressed crew were located by the ICG aircraft operating from Chennai and the crew were comforted. Thereafter, ICGS Priyadarshini patrolling in area was diverted for immediate assistance. The ICG Ship provided technical support, rectified the detect and made the boat operational. All the crew are reported to be healthy, the ICG said. The officials of Indian Coast Guard were in constant comm cation with the boat owner and fisheries authorities during this rescue mission. The ICG said that the incident highlighted the disadvantages of fishing boats venturing out alone. The fishermen are advised to undertake fishing in groups adhering to safe practices at sea and carry adequate lifesaving appliances and comm cation equipment onboard, it added. ASU SHK2051
