New Delhi, May 17: CNG prices in New Delhi have risen once more. On Sunday, the cost increased by ₹1 per kilogram. This marks the second price hike in just 48 hours, adding to the fuel cost burden for commuters in the Delhi-NCR region.
Following this latest increase, CNG prices in Delhi have reached ₹80.09 per kilogram. This is the first time CNG rates have surpassed the ₹80 mark in the capital. Consequently, in Noida and Ghaziabad, CNG will now cost ₹88.70 per kilogram.
Previously, on Friday, CNG prices were raised by ₹2 per kilogram, bringing the rate to ₹79.09 per kilogram at that time. Additionally, petrol and diesel prices in the national capital also saw an increase of approximately ₹3 per liter on Friday. As a result, petrol is now priced at ₹97.77 per liter, while diesel costs ₹90.67 per liter.
This spike in fuel prices comes amid rising tensions in West Asia and the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most crucial energy trade routes. Nearly one-fifth of global oil and gas trade passes through this narrow passage, and supply disruptions have led to a sharp rise in international crude oil prices.
In response to criticism regarding rising fuel costs, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that despite significant increases in global crude oil prices, India has managed to keep petrol and diesel price hikes relatively limited. He noted that many countries have experienced fuel price increases ranging from 20% to nearly 100%, while in India, petrol and diesel prices have risen by only 3.2% and 3.4%, respectively. Rijiju emphasized that despite global market volatility, India’s public sector oil marketing companies have absorbed substantial losses to shield consumers from the impacts of inflation.
