Kolkata, May 9: Just hours after taking the oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari held his inaugural meeting with the state’s top administrative and police officials on Saturday. The meeting took place at the Public Works Department auditorium in central Kolkata and included key figures such as Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariyala, Home Secretary Sanghamitra Ghosh, and Director General of Police (DGP) Siddh Nath Gupta.
During the session, Chief Minister Adhikari sought updates on the overall administrative and law-and-order situation in the state. He is also expected to convene a meeting on Monday at 5 PM with senior officials from the state administration and Kolkata Police at the state secretariat, ‘Nabanna.’
Sources indicate that this upcoming meeting will include the state DGP, the Kolkata Police Commissioner, and senior officials from various police zones across the state. Earlier that day, Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Suvendu Adhikari in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several senior political leaders at Brigade Parade Ground.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, Adhikari engaged in brief discussions with senior police and administrative officials present at the venue. He also updated his social media profiles, adding the title of ‘Chief Minister’ alongside his name.
On the same day, five other ministers were sworn in alongside Adhikari, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Nishiith Pramanik, and Khudiram Tudu. The remaining ministers are scheduled to take their oaths on Monday at Lok Bhawan, with the first meeting of the new cabinet likely to occur on the same day.
Initial reports suggest that BJP MLA Tapas Roy is expected to take the oath as Pro Tem Speaker on Tuesday, while newly elected legislators are anticipated to be sworn in on Wednesday and Thursday.
