Geetanjali Hospital’s Plastic Surgeon performed successful operation
Udaipur : In recent times, with the advancement in medical sciences and availability of latest technologies life savior operations are performed successfully. These have helped in saving the most critical patients too. One such case has been reported at Geetanjali Medical College & Hospital, Udaipur’s Plastic Surgery & Burns department where a Bhilwara resident, suffering from ulnar nerve paralysis with claw hand was saved performing “Claw Hand Corrective Surgery.”
Operating Surgeon, Dr. Soni informed that the patient, “Prakashi Bai, had intrinsic weakness of the fingers with clawing hand losing the synchronistic finger flexion, inability to abduct (loose posture of small finger) and weakness of grip. She was then treated by performing corrective surgery. Tendon (muscle) from ring finger was taken which was divided in four parts & was transplanted in rest fingers. Tendon transfer surgery was performed to correct the established clawed fingers which helped in facilitating hand function to complete daily activities and lead a normal life. Hand function improved after surgery and it showed steady progress during follow-up.”
“The surgery saved the hand from further damage and with no residual loss. The deformity was caused due to leprosy which had hampered the use of hands in daily routine activities. Intrinsic paralysis can be the manifestation of a variety of pathologic entities (stroke, cerebral palsy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth, muscular dystrophy, leprosy, trauma, cervical disease, and compressive and metabolic neuropathies). Patients present with a spectrum of clinical findings dependent on the cause and severity of the disease which may require immediate medication,” said the senior reconstructive plastic & burn surgeon Dr. Ashutosh Soni.
CEO, Geetanjali Medical College & Hospital, Mr. Prateem Tamboli said that, “Reconstructive Procedures or Corrective Surgeries are performed to treat structures of the body affected aesthetically or functionally by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors or disease are successfully performed by our renowned Plasctic & Burn Surgeon Dr. Soni.
