New Delhi, June 10: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has successfully thwarted a drug smuggling attempt at the International Departure Area of Terminal 3 at IGI Airport.
During routine monitoring and behavioral profiling in the check-in area, a passenger traveling from Sharjah to Amman was identified due to suspicious behavior. This individual was selected for random screening at X-BIS Gate Number 05.
While screening the passenger’s luggage, a suspicious image appeared on the X-BIS monitor, prompting a thorough physical inspection of the bags. Upon closer examination, several packets were discovered concealed within new clothing, raising suspicions of narcotic or psychotropic substances.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for the Delhi zone was immediately informed. An NCB team arrived at the airport and conducted a field drug test on the seized substances. The test confirmed the presence of hashish (charas), classified as a psychotropic substance under the NDPS Act of 1985. In total, 20 packets weighing 4.411 kilograms were seized.
After confirmation, the NCB team completed all necessary legal formalities and prepared a seizure list along with a panchnama. Subsequently, the team departed from the airport with the accused and the confiscated items for further action at the NCB Delhi zone office.
This successful operation highlights the effectiveness of behavioral profiling, screening techniques, and coordination among various agencies in combating the smuggling of narcotics and psychotropic substances through IGI Airport.
