
Beijing, March 5: The Chinese women’s basketball team secured a thrilling victory against Brazil, winning 74-69 in a practice match held in Changsha, Hunan Province, ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
The first quarter showcased a fierce competition between both teams. In the second quarter, the Chinese team took control, limiting Brazil to just 11 points and establishing a lead. Wang Siyu excelled, scoring 13 points by making all six of her shots in the first half, allowing China to lead 39-26 at halftime.
By the third quarter, China had extended their lead to 55-40. However, they struggled in the fourth quarter, managing only 9 points. In a dramatic turn of events, Brazil tied the game at 64-64 with a long three-pointer in the final seconds, sending the match into overtime.
During overtime, Chang Yu delivered a stellar performance, playing a crucial role in securing the win for China. Ultimately, the Chinese team emerged victorious with a score of 74-69.
Head coach Kong Luming emphasized the need for high-level matches to prepare the team for the World Cup qualifiers. The two teams are set to clash again on Friday. The 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers will take place from March 11 to 17, with China placed in a group alongside Belgium, Brazil, South Sudan, the Czech Republic, and Mali in Wuhan.
