Chinese Shuttlers Dominate Finals at 2026 Malaysia Masters

Kuala Lumpur, May 23: Chinese shuttlers have secured their spots in all four finals of the 2026 Malaysia Masters following impressive performances in the semifinals of the BWF World Series event held on Saturday.

In men’s singles, Li Shifeng defeated his compatriot Hu Jiaan with a score of 21-17, 21-16, earning a place in the finals where he will face Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul on Sunday. Star player Chen Yufei easily overcame Japan’s Hina Akechi, winning 21-11, 21-14, and will now compete against Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon for the title in women’s singles.

In women’s doubles, the pair of Chen Fangshutian and Luo Jumin made a comeback to defeat their fellow countrywomen Bao Lizhing and Kao Jihan with scores of 18-21, 21-9, 21-19. They will face Japan’s Sayaka Hirota and Ayako Sakuramato in the finals.

In mixed doubles, the duo of Gao Jiayixuan and Wei Yaxin triumphed over Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje, winning 22-24, 21-16, 21-18 to secure their spot in the finals. They will compete against Thailand’s Pakkapon Teeraratsakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai.

Earlier, on Friday, Chinese shuttlers easily defeated their opponents in the quarterfinals. World junior champion Hu Jiaan won against Indonesia’s Jonathan Christie with scores of 14-21, 21-13, 21-16, while Li Shifeng defeated France’s Toma Junior Popov 21-18, 15-21, 21-5.

In women’s singles, Chen Yufei beat Thailand’s Pichamon Opatniputh 21-19, 21-9. The women’s doubles pair of Bao Lizhing and Kao Jihan overcame Chinese Taipei’s Chen Yanfei and Sun Liangching with scores of 21-14, 18-21, 21-15, while Chen Fangshutian and Luo Jumin defeated Japan’s Rin Iwanaga and Ki Nakanishi 24-22, 21-18.

In mixed doubles, Gao Jiayixuan and Wei Yaxin won against Malaysia’s Chen Tang Ji and Toh E Wei with scores of 21-18, 21-16, and Guo Xinwa and Chen Fanghui beat the USA’s Presley Smith and Jenny Gai 23-21, 22-20.
