Beijing, February 26: Chinese Premier Li Qiang held talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on February 25 during his visit to Beijing.
Li emphasized that both nations are making concerted efforts to advance China-Germany relations and cooperation steadily, achieving numerous new milestones. He expressed China’s readiness to strengthen dialogue and mutual political trust, aiming to deepen the strategic partnership and enhance collaboration for the benefit of both peoples.
Li noted that this year marks the first year of China’s five-year plan. Over the next five years, there will be increased opportunities for economic and trade cooperation between China and Germany. China is prepared to expand bilateral trade by enhancing development strategies and policy relations with Germany, revitalizing traditional cooperation in the automotive and chemical sectors, and exploring new economic growth points in areas like AI and biomedicine.
China aims to import more high-quality products from Germany and hopes that Germany will provide a fairer, more stable, and predictable commercial environment for Chinese enterprises.
Li stated that as two major economies and influential countries, China and Germany should work together to promote multilateralism, safeguard free trade, and contribute positively to global peace and development through a more just and rational global governance system.
Merz highlighted the close economic ties between Germany and China, noting the vast potential for cooperation. Germany is keen to strengthen high-level dialogue with China to ensure balanced development in bilateral economic and trade relations, enhance cooperation in green transformation, and address climate change. After the talks, both sides signed documents related to cooperation in areas such as green transformation, customs, sports, and media.
