Beijing, February 18: The continuous expansion of China’s visa-free travel network and policies promoting consumption have led to a significant surge in the tourist market during this year’s Spring Festival holidays. Celebrating the “Chinese New Year in China” has emerged as a new global trend.
It is estimated that the average daily number of travelers arriving and departing at ports across the country will reach 20.5 million during the Spring Festival holidays, marking a 14.1% increase compared to last year. Other statistics indicate that bookings for flights to China by foreign tourists have increased more than fourfold compared to the previous year.
This growth is evident in the bustling activity at ports nationwide. On New Year’s Eve, the international arrival hall of Bao’an International Airport in Shenzhen was packed with people, with nearly 20 international flights landing within two hours. Data confirms this trend: in the two weeks leading up to the Spring Festival, bookings for air travel by foreign tourists surged by over 400% compared to last year. In just the last month, more than 160,000 foreigners entered and exited Shenzhen Airport, reflecting an increase of about 60% from the previous year.
At the Hainan Free Trade Port, the benefits of the visa-free policy were particularly evident during the first Spring Festival after the launch of a special customs campaign on the island. Citizens from 86 visa-free countries can easily enter China with just their passports. The excitement of the Chinese New Year has spread from the southern islands to the northern borders.
At the Heihe Port in Heilongjiang Province, Russian tourist Sasha enthusiastically shared his thoughts on the Spring Festival: “It’s a wonderful festival, vibrant and festive.” To manage the large crowds, the Heihe immigration inspection center dynamically adjusted its channels and introduced bilingual guidance services to ensure smooth customs clearance.
