China Commits to Political Solutions for Ukraine Crisis, Says Tang Fei

Beijing, February 26: Tang Fei, a counselor at the Chinese permanent mission to the United Nations, addressed the emergency special session of the UN General Assembly on February 24. Following the passage of a draft resolution supporting Ukraine’s lasting peace, he expressed China’s hope for the international community to create a conducive environment for a political resolution to the crisis.

He emphasized that the UN General Assembly should play a constructive role in gathering member states’ commonalities for peace. China remains committed to making positive efforts toward a political solution to the crisis.

Tang Fei noted that China abstained from voting on the draft resolution at the UN General Assembly. He reiterated China’s long-standing position of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, adhering to the principles of the UN Charter, and valuing the legitimate security concerns of various parties. He stated that all efforts supporting a peaceful resolution to the crisis should be encouraged.

He further mentioned that the root causes of the problem should be addressed to establish a more balanced, effective, and sustainable European security framework.

It is important to note that the UN General Assembly passed the resolution supporting Ukraine’s lasting peace with 107 votes in favor, 7 against, and 51 abstentions.
