Udaipur : A large number of vulnerable children come in contact with railways as passengers or abandoned, trafficked, runaway or separated from parents and often are noticed alone on trains or platforms or living around railway stations. In order to help such children in distress and need, Jatan Sansthan, an NGO is all set to start childline service at the city railway station here.
The program coordinator Om Gayari said the child line services would begin next week and volunteers would come to aid of children who are found traveling alone or happen to separate from their families for any reason. Udaipur would be the sixth station after Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Kota and Bikaner to have the service. A special room and kiosk would be allotted for the child line.” The room would be such with facilities so that if any child is found , he/she could be properly attended there by the volunteers. There would be 8 members working in different shifts 24×7 at the station” Gayari said.
“Udaipur is a junction where many trains begin and end their trips and is connected to large cities of the country including metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata. There is a guideline by the railways for creating child friendly environment for distressed children. We are creating awareness among passengers, common public, vendors and porters how to inform the child line if they come across any vulnerable children. The child line services would cover all stations between Udaipur to Mavli” another volunteer Sanjay Rao informed.
