Morena, April 27: The movements of Cheetah KP-3, which has traveled from Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh to Rajasthan, have captured the attention of the forest department and local residents. Over the past two months, this cheetah has covered approximately 600 kilometers, roaming through various forest areas and residential zones.
Reports indicate that KP-3 has been sighted in several ranges in Baran district, including Kishanganj, Chhipabarod, Atru, and Chhabra. Its proximity to villages has sparked both curiosity and fear among locals. At one point, when a crowd of villagers approached the cheetah, it became aggressive, prompting forest officials to intervene and ensure the safety of the people.
Currently, KP-3’s presence has been recorded across various ranges in Baran district, where a dedicated team from the forest department is closely monitoring its activities.
According to forest department officials, during its journey, KP-3 has preyed on over a dozen animals, including nilgai, goats, calves, rabbits, and wild boars. While this hunting behavior is a natural part of its survival, its presence near human settlements raises concerns.
Previously, tracking KP-3’s location was hindered due to its GPS collar getting wet. However, after receiving a new signal, its movements were successfully traced again. During this time, it crossed the Parvati River and spent a few days in the Shergarh Sanctuary.
Meanwhile, another cheetah, KP-2, which also left Kuno, is active in Rajasthan and has been spotted near the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. Wildlife experts are particularly cautious about the presence of cheetahs in such areas, as they are primarily habitats for tigers.
Experts believe that the long-distance travel of these cheetahs is part of their natural behavior, but their approach to human settlements can pose challenges. The forest department continues to monitor both cheetahs and has urged the public to remain vigilant.
