Chandigarh Launches Major Teacher Recruitment Drive for Government Schools
CHANDIGARH โ April 20, 2025: In a significant move to enhance the quality of education in public schools, the Chandigarh Education Department has officially initiated the recruitment process for Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs). The department is set to complete the hiring process in the coming weeks, aiming to balance the student-teacher ratio across 66 government schools.
A total of 303 permanent TGT positions are being filled across various subjects. The department has confirmed that appointment letters will soon be issued to eligible candidates, following the publication of the final merit list.
Over 60,000 Applicants, Final Appointments Underway
The recruitment drive, launched on February 26, 2024, received an overwhelming 60,397 applications. Following multiple screening phases, the merit list of selected candidates has been released. Only those who meet the eligibility criteria will be issued appointment letters by the department.
Once selected, candidates must undergo a mandatory medical examination before being officially posted to their assigned schools. Department officials anticipate that most teachers will receive school assignments by the last week of May 2025.

Past Recruitment and Current Developments
This is the first regular TGT recruitment since 2015. During the previous cycle, the department appointed teachers to several categories, including JBT, NTT, PGT, and Special Education, though many posts remained vacant. This year, officials have assured a more streamlined appointment process.
According to Harsuhindarpal Singh Brar, Director of the School Education Department, successful candidates will be formally inducted through organized ceremonies, where they will receive their official appointment letters.
