Celebrating the Chinese New Year: A Cultural Exchange in India

Beijing, February 5: The Chinese Embassy and the Consulate General in Kolkata hosted grand receptions for the 2026 Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) on Tuesday. Representatives from various sectors in India, the expatriate Chinese community, Chinese enterprises, and students participated enthusiastically.

At the event held at the Shangri-La Hotel in New Delhi, Chinese Ambassador Xiu Feihong extended New Year greetings to the guests. He highlighted China’s economic achievements, the steady improvement in China-India relations, and record levels of bilateral trade. The ambassador reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening strategic coordination, practical cooperation, and cultural exchanges with India, expressing readiness to work together as India assumes the BRICS presidency.

Meanwhile, in Kolkata, Consul General Xiu Wei welcomed over 400 guests at the reception. He praised the local community’s contributions to China-India friendship and cooperation, expressing hope for more stable and solid collaboration in the future.

Both events showcased a vibrant blend of China-India cultural integration through traditional Chinese cuisine and cultural performances, including dragon dances, martial arts, violin and erhu performances, as well as enchanting presentations of Chinese and Indian songs. Guests celebrated the Chinese New Year in a warm and festive atmosphere, reflecting a positive environment for bilateral relations and increasing friendship through human exchanges.
