CEC should make special arrangements for free and fair polls: Akhilesh

Lucknow, April 8 : Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday raised doubts over transparency and fairness during the polling for the local bodies constituencies on Saturday and demanded the Chief Election Commissioner to make special arrangements. In a statement issued here, Akhilesh said that the manner in which Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders are claiming to win all seats of the Legislative Council puts a question mark on the intentions of the government. “The dictatorial manner with which BJP looted nomination papers of the opposition during Panchayats polls in the last five years it has become clear that the party has no faith in democracy and free and fair elections,” he alleged. He alleged that during the Council polls the drama of unopposed election was staged under the pressure of the BJP government. “In the context of these incidents it can be concluded automatically that the BJP will not deter from rigging in these elections and is conspiring to gain a majority in the Legislative Council,” he said. It may be noted that polling for 27 sets of local bodies constituencies of UP Legislative Council will be held on Saturday between 8 am to 4 pm. Counting of the votes will be done on April 12.
