Ceasefire Violation in Poonch: Pakistan Opens Fire to Aid Infiltration, Search Ops Underway on LoC
Poonch, April 7 In a serious escalation of cross-border tensions, Pakistani forces opened heavy fire late Sunday night in the Dighwar sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmirโs Poonch district. The gunfire, reportedly aimed at facilitating the infiltration of terrorists into Indian territory, marked a significant breach of the 2021 ceasefire agreement.
Heavy Gunfire to Cover Infiltration Attempts
Sources within the Indian defense establishment confirmed that the firing began around midnight and continued intermittently through the night. Pakistani troops are believed to have initiated the exchange to provide cover for armed terrorists attempting to cross into Indian soil under the veil of darkness.
The Indian Army retaliated strongly, effectively engaging the Pakistani positions. Though there are no reports of injuries or casualties on the Indian side, the intensity of fire signaled a deliberate attempt to destabilize peace in the region.
Indian Army Launches Search Operation
In response to the suspected infiltration attempt, Indian security forces launched a massive search operation at first light on Monday. The area around Dighwar has been cordoned off, and combing operations are underway to locate any infiltrators who may have crossed over under the cover of night.
The entire LoC in the Poonch sector remains on high alert, with surveillance stepped up through aerial and ground reconnaissance.
Ceasefire Breaches Continue Despite 2021 Agreement
This latest incident is a violation of the ceasefire agreement signed between India and Pakistan on February 25, 2021, under which both sides had agreed to a strict observance of all agreements and understandings along the LoC.
Despite this pact, Pakistan has repeatedly violated the ceasefire, attempting to use cross-border firing to push terrorists into India. Sunday nightโs firing is yet another reminder of the challenges in maintaining lasting peace along the volatile border.
