New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed a chargesheet against six persons, including then SHO, then three Sub-Inspectors, a Head Constable and a Constable in the Court of Special Judicial Magistrate in Lucknow in a case related to death of Manish Gupta, who was a resident of Kanpur, said CBI.
CBI said it had registered a case on November 2, last year, on the request of Uttar Pradesh Government and further notification from the Union government and took over the investigation. The case was earlier registered under section 302 of IPC at Ramgarh Tal Police Station of Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district against three Police Officials including SHO and two Sub-Inspectors and unknown Police officials on complaint from the wife of Manish Gupta pertaining to death of her husband on September 27, last year.
The CBI said the chargesheet was filed against then SHO Jagat Narayan Singh, then Sub-Inspectors, Akshay Kumar Mishra, Vijay Yadav and Rahul Dubey, then Head Constable Kamlesh Singh Yadav and then Constable Prashant Kumar.
It was alleged that Gupta checked in a room of a Hotel at Gorakhpur on September 27, falling under the jurisdiction of Ramgarh Tal Police Station. It was further alleged that in the intervening night of September 27-28, at about 12:00 am, SHO along with two Sub-Inspectors and three other police personnel entered into the room of the hotel and started misbehaving with Gupta. On protest of Gupta, they allegedly started beating him, resulting in grievous injuries to him and he died on the spot, said CBI.
