Chandosi, February 12: In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two officials from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Chandosi, Uttar Pradesh. They are accused of soliciting and accepting bribes from a private company.
The arrested officials have been identified as Sunil Tyagi, the manager of the FCI depot, and Ashok Kumar, an Assistant Grade-II (depot in-charge). Both were stationed in Chandosi.
According to a CBI press release, the case was registered on February 11, 2026, based on a complaint from a private company operating in the area.
The complainant had gone to deposit 16 stacks of rice at the FCI Babraala depot and was planning to deposit an additional 8 stacks. During this process, the depot in-charge allegedly demanded an illegal bribe of ₹50,000 to clear the initial 16 stacks.
Furthermore, a demand of ₹15,000 per stack for the remaining eight stacks was also made, as detailed in the CBI’s statement.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI set up a trap. The agency revealed that the depot in-charge conspired with the FCI Chandosi depot manager to extort bribes.
Both officials were caught red-handed on February 11 while accepting the first installment of ₹30,000 from the complainant.
The CBI has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the corruption and to determine if any other individuals are involved.
Officials noted that this case highlights the persistent challenges of bribery and corruption within the public distribution system. Additionally, it underscores the CBI’s proactive role in ensuring transparency and accountability.
As the investigation continues, further information regarding potential disciplinary actions against the accused and additional inquiries is expected to be released in the coming days.
