Hyderabad, June 26: Hyderabad police have arrested a cash van driver and his two sons for allegedly stealing ₹1.7 million from an ATM cash van. The arrests occurred two days ago.
On June 23, Chirra Srinivas, the driver, was apprehended along with his sons, Chirra Anish and Chirra Jaswant, near an SBI ATM in the A.D. Bazar area.
The Commissioner’s Task Force from the Charminar zone and the IS Sadan police made the arrests on Thursday, recovering ₹14.55 lakh in cash, a motorcycle used in the crime, and four mobile phones.
During a press conference, Charminar zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Khare Kiran Prabhakar announced the successful operation.
The incident came to light when Bantuplli Suresh, a cash custodian for Cleared Security Services Private Limited, filed a complaint with the police. He reported that driver Chirra Srinivas had stolen ₹17 lakh intended for loading into the SBI ATM.
A case was registered at the IS Sadan police station under section 303(3) of the BNS.
Police reviewed CCTV footage and discovered that Srinivas had fled with a bag of cash on a motorcycle with another individual, later identified as his son Anish.
According to police, Srinivas devised the theft plan due to financial difficulties and discussed it with his sons. On June 23, he instructed Anish to meet him at the SBI ATM while he worked. As other staff members were busy loading cash, Srinivas took the bag and escaped down a nearby alley, where Anish picked him up.
Later, they met Jaswant in Peerzadiguda, where Srinivas handed him ₹10 lakh from the stolen amount. The remaining cash was kept by Srinivas and Anish, who spent it on various expenses.
Based on intelligence, police arrested Srinivas and Anish in Bowenpally. Following their information, they also apprehended the third suspect, Jaswant, in Peerzadiguda.
