New Delhi, April 25: Young Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has received backing from tennis legends during his challenging time after withdrawing from the 2026 French Open due to a wrist injury. Former great Rafael Nadal and current top rival Jannik Sinner have both expressed their support for Alcaraz.
Nadal took to social media to uplift Alcaraz’s spirits. He stated that tough times reveal a player’s true strength and expressed confidence that Alcaraz would return even stronger. This message has been well-received within the tennis community, as a special bond exists between the two players.
World number one Jannik Sinner also voiced his support for Alcaraz, emphasizing that tennis needs players like him to make the sport more exciting.
Alcaraz sustained his injury during the first round of the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona. After initial examinations, he decided to withdraw from major tournaments for precautionary reasons. Consequently, he will miss the French Open in Paris for the first time since 2021.
In a message to his fans, Alcaraz stated that after medical tests, his team concluded that resting was the best course of action. He acknowledged that this is a difficult phase in his career but remains hopeful for a swift return.
Alcaraz had recently been in excellent form, having completed a career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open earlier this year. However, due to his injury, he risks losing significant ranking points as he will not be able to defend his titles in Rome and at the French Open.
