New Delhi : Former Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday. Union Ministers and senior BJP leaders Narendra Singh Tomar and Kiren Rijiju welcomed him in a press conference held at party headquarters in New Delhi.
Captain Amarinder Singh also merged his party Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) and joined the BJP. Senior BJP leader Narendra Singh Tomar said that the former CM has always kept nation above all and welcomed him and his supporters in the BJP family on behalf of millions of BJP workers.
He said that the BJP is such a party which has always proudly said that the nation is first and the party second. He added that this principle was always adopted by Captain Amarinder too, and that is the cause of this output. He said that Capt Amarinder Singh joining the BJP means that he is in favour of peace and security in Punjab.
Tomar said that with Singh’s arrival, the strength of the Bharatiya Janata Party will increase and it will be a historic step for development in Punjab.
Rijiju said that him and Captain Amarinder being associated with different political parties never affected the work. Recalling when he was MoS, Home Affairs and Singh was the CM of Punjab, Rijiju said that above everything else there was Singh’s astute position on keeping interest of the people of the state and country.
Rijiju said that country’s unity, integrity & security is of utmost priority. Adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi thinks it is important for the country to be united and that people of Punjab should be handled in a right manner, he said that party and him always had this feeling Captain Amarinder has sense of national security and welcomed him.
Along side Captain Amarinder Singh, Former MLA Harjinder Singh, Former MLA Prem Mittal, Nirvan Singh, Former MLA Harjan Kaur, Kamaldeep Singh Saini, Rachna Singh and others joined BJP on Monday evening.
