Kolkata, April 4 : Calcutta High Court on Monday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe into the murder of veteran Congress leader and Councillor of Jhalda M cipality Tapan Kandu in Purulia district. Directing the federal investigation agency to probe the murder on a prayer from Purnima Kandu, widow of the deceased, Calcutta High Court justice Rajasekhar Mantha told the court that the central agency must submit its investigation report in 45 days. Four times councillor Tapan Kandu was shot dead by some dentified miscreants while on an evening stroll with his wife on March 13 last. The court also directed the state police to hand over all the documents related to the investigation of Tapan Kandu murder. The court also expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of the probe by the state police, which also gave a clean chit to Jhalda police station IC Sanjib Ghosh, one of the accused persons in the case. Purnima Kandu has been charging the IC with having nexus in the murder of her husband. Purulia district police chief S. Selvamurugan in a media conference on Sunday ruled out allegations by Purnima Kandu, also a newly elected Councillor, and some relatives against the inspector-in-charge of Jhalda police station Sanjib Ghosh of trying to intimidate the Congress councillor to join Trinamool and help the ruling party form the civic board in Jhalda, which returned hung. The court noted how a police chief gave clean chit to one of its officers before any breakthrough was made. The court also noted that the IC was still on the job and he was not questioned in the probe. PC KK ARN
