New Delhi, June 24: The Indian Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI) has announced the results of the CA Intermediate examination held in May 2026. This exam is known as one of the toughest professional assessments in the country. Thousands of students tested their dedication and patience, but only a select few achieved success. Shardul Shekhar Vichare from Dombivli, Maharashtra, excelled by securing the top position nationwide, scoring 531 out of 600, which translates to an impressive 88.50%.
In a close competition, Abhinav Satish from Kochi secured the second position with 530 marks, achieving 88.33%. The narrow margin of just one mark between the top two candidates heightened the excitement of the results. Tirth Jain from Mumbai claimed the third spot with a score of 519, representing 86.50%.
Notably, 33,304 candidates appeared for both groups of the CA exam in May, but only 2,820 managed to pass both. A total of 153,862 candidates registered for the exam, which was conducted across 611 centers in India and abroad.
Experts suggest that these results reaffirm the challenging nature of the CA path. However, months of preparation, discipline, and relentless effort have led hundreds of students to success. According to the institute, 91,237 candidates participated in Group-1, with only 9,350 passing, resulting in a pass percentage of 10.25%. This means that only one in ten candidates succeeded in this phase.
Group-2 performed relatively better, with 64,381 candidates taking the exam. Out of these, 10,372 candidates passed, yielding a pass percentage of 16.11%. While this is an improvement over Group-1, the success rate remains limited. For CA candidates, passing both groups simultaneously is considered the most significant challenge.
The overall pass percentage was a mere 8.47%, indicating that only about 8 out of every 100 candidates managed to clear both groups together. This statistic clearly reflects the difficulty and competitiveness of the CA examination. The top three positions showcased fierce competition, with Shardul Shekhar Vichare (Dombivli) in first place, Abhinav Satish (Kochi) in second, and Tirth Jain (Mumbai) in third. The single mark difference between the first and second positions further highlighted the competitive nature of this exam.
ICAI President Prasanna Kumar D congratulated the successful candidates, stating that this achievement is a result of their dedication, commitment, and hard work. He emphasized that success is not a final destination but an opportunity to pursue new goals. He encouraged students to continue striving to realize their dreams. Candidates can check their results and detailed scorecards on the official website.
To view the results on the ICAI portal, candidates need to enter their registration number and roll number. The CA Intermediate examination is considered a crucial phase in the journey of chartered accountancy. Success in this exam is determined not only by subject knowledge but also by time management, analytical skills, consistent practice, and mental resilience.
