Noida, February 2: BJP leader and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has praised the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) 2026, calling it a major success. He attributed the continuous development of the sport over the past decade to improved sports infrastructure.
In an exciting final at the Noida Indoor Stadium on Sunday night, Haryana Thunder defeated Delhi Dangal Warriors 5-4 to win the PWL 2026 title. Reacting to the match, Brij Bhushan said the final remained competitive until the very end, making it one of the most thrilling contests in recent wrestling history.
He said, “It was a very impressive match with suspense until the last moments, as the score was tied 4-4. Delhi had 4 points and Haryana also had 4 points. As a result, the winner was not decided until the final moments. In most matches, the result becomes clear early, and anyone can predict the winner, but in this final, the suspense lasted till the end, making it an excellent contest.”
Highlighting India’s growing strength in wrestling, Brij Bhushan expressed confidence in the country’s future prospects on the international stage. He added, “India is performing very well in wrestling. We expect even better results in the future. Among all sports, wrestling has the highest potential for India to win medals.”
The former WFI president also credited the government for steady progress in sports infrastructure over the last decade. He said, “Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took charge, there has been continuous improvement in sports facilities and infrastructure. During this period, we have not faced any major problems.”
Haryana Thunder won the championship trophy along with prize money of Rs 1.5 crore, while the runners-up Delhi Dangal Warriors received Rs 75 lakh.
