BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting Set to Take Place Next Week in New Delhi

New Delhi, May 9: Next week, New Delhi will host the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting under India’s presidency. This event is considered one of the key diplomatic gatherings for India’s 2026 BRICS chairmanship.

Foreign ministers from Brazil, Russia, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia are expected to attend.

Sources indicate that the United Arab Emirates will be represented at the deputy foreign minister level. Iran is also likely to send a delegation at the same level, while a Sherpa delegation from China is anticipated to participate.

Reports suggest that the meeting will be held on May 14 and 15, focusing on issues such as the Global South, multilateral cooperation, economic partnerships, regional security, and current geopolitical tensions.

India has set the theme for its BRICS presidency as “Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.” The country has taken charge of the ‘BRICS 2026′ event, with the website, theme, and logo launched on January 13.

During the unveiling, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar noted that BRICS will celebrate its 20th anniversary during India’s presidency. The group has evolved into a significant platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing economies.

In recent years, BRICS has expanded its agenda and membership, focusing on people-centered development, promoting dialogue, and enhancing practical cooperation in response to changing global realities.

India is leading with a “Humanity First” and “People-Centric” approach. Jaishankar remarked that the BRICS logo combines elements of tradition and modernity, incorporating colors from all member countries, symbolizing a strong sense of unity in diversity and shared purpose.

This meeting is part of the preparations for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to take place in New Delhi in September 2026.
