Brazilian President Lula Concludes Five-Day Visit to India

New Delhi, February 22: Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has completed his visit to India. He departed for Brazil on Sunday, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs. President Lula was in India from February 18 to 22.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced on the social media platform X, “A successful visit has concluded! President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s trip significantly enhanced the strategic partnership between India and Brazil, yielding several positive outcomes. He was bid farewell by MOS Pabitra Margerita.”

Earlier, President Lula shared a special video of his India visit on X, stating, “Brazil and India are not just two major democracies of the Global South. We are a meeting point between the world’s pharmacy and its food provider, a digital superpower and a renewable energy powerhouse. Two very different countries, united by cultural strength and a commitment to multilateralism and peace.”

He further emphasized that by working together, Brazil and India could strengthen mutual relations, enhance ties with Mercosur, and empower the Global South.

On Saturday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Lula held a bilateral meeting. They agreed to further advance cooperation between their countries. The Ministry of External Affairs has released detailed information regarding the discussions and agreements made during this meeting.

Following the bilateral talks, PM Modi expressed his delight in a joint statement, saying, “I am extremely pleased to welcome President Lula and his delegation. The warmth and hospitality with which you welcomed me in Brazil last year is reciprocated today. This brings me special satisfaction. The relationship between India and Brazil has long benefited from President Lula’s vision and inspiring connections.”

The Prime Minister added, “In recent years, I have had the privilege of meeting him several times. Each meeting has reaffirmed his deep friendship and trust towards India. President Lula’s visit has also enhanced the AI Impact Summit and infused new energy into our strategic partnership. I express my gratitude for his friendship and commitment to the relations between our two countries.”
