Botad, February 28: The Botad district in Gujarat’s Saurashtra region is steadily becoming a prominent destination for religious tourism, attracting devotees and visitors from across the country and beyond.
This development follows several projects initiated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s government, aimed at enhancing infrastructure and connectivity at the district’s key pilgrimage sites.
Notable locations benefiting from these initiatives include the Shri Kashtabhajan Hanuman Temple in Sarangpur, Vihaldham in Paliyad, and the Swaminarayan Temple in Gadhda.
The Shri Kashtabhajan Hanuman Temple in Sarangpur is unique within the Swaminarayan sect, as it venerates Hanuman as the principal deity. A recently installed 54-foot statue has further elevated the temple’s profile, drawing devotees from around the globe.
BAPS Sarangpur’s spiritual leader, Swami Atmanirupanand, stated, “In this village, the revered saint Gopalanand Swami established the idol of Kashtabhajan Dev Hanuman. This temple is renowned worldwide for its spiritual significance.”
Located a short distance from Sarangpur, Vihaldham in Paliyad is recognized as the meditation site of Sant Shiromani Vishal Bapu. Meanwhile, the Swaminarayan Temple in Gadhda, also known as the Gopinathji Temple, preserves its rich historical heritage. Lord Swaminarayan himself consecrated the idols here in 1828.
The spiritual leader of BAPS Gadhda, Swami Dharmaprakash, remarked, “This is the land of Lord Swaminarayan’s deeds. He resided here for 25 years and personally oversaw the construction of this temple, which is now known as the Gopinathji Temple.”
Government efforts to enhance facilities and connectivity are not only simplifying pilgrimage but also creating job opportunities for local residents.
Mayur Joshi, a resident of Gadhda, noted, “A large number of pilgrims visit places like Gadhda, Paliyad, and Sarangpur. The Swaminarayan Temple in Gadhda attracts many devotees of Hari, significantly benefiting local businesses.”
Botad district holds special significance for followers of the Swaminarayan sect. Following the passing of BAPS Guru Pramukh Swami Maharaj in 2016, a memorial (temple) was established in Sarangpur, further enhancing the area’s spiritual importance.
The blend of faith, spiritual heritage, and development is making Botad a unique destination for religious tourists while showcasing the district’s role in preserving Saurashtra’s long-standing saint traditions.
