Bomb Threats Target Ahmedabads Narendra Modi Stadium and 12 Other Locations

Ahmedabad, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium was the recipient of a bomb threat via email on Wednesday, October 7, during a match between the India U-19 and Australia U-19 teams. The email also warned of a potential explosion during a concert by singer Diljit Dosanjh scheduled for November 21.

This threat was part of a series of emails sent to various institutions in Ahmedabad, including schools and courts. Fortunately, the police later confirmed that all threats were hoaxes. However, as a precaution, security agencies conducted thorough investigations at all affected locations.

The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), which manages the stadium, received a specific mention of the November 21 concert in the threatening email. Additionally, the email referenced another event by Dosanjh at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on November 1.

The sender claimed to be associated with a pro-Khalistan organization, warning people against attending the concert. The message included inflammatory language and references to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

According to police reports, the email arrived at the stadium management around 10:52 AM, coinciding with the match. The game concluded around 11:15 AM, and both teams left the stadium shortly after learning of the threat.

A cyber cell team was dispatched to the stadium to investigate the email’s origin. Anil Patel, secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, stated that local police were notified immediately upon receipt of the email.

Hardik Makadia, ACP of Cyber Crime, confirmed that a total of 13 locations received bomb threats on that day. He noted, “In addition to Narendra Modi Stadium, schools and other institutions also received threatening emails. All threats were later found to be false, and the investigation is ongoing.”

Police, bomb disposal squads, dog units, and other security agencies thoroughly searched all targeted locations. Officials reported that no suspicious items were discovered during the investigations.

This incident follows a pattern of similar bomb threats that have previously targeted schools, courts, and other institutions in Ahmedabad.
