Bollywood Legends Honored with Padma Awards: A Celebration of Talent and Memories

Mumbai, May 18: The announcement of the Padma Awards for 2026 by the Government of India has brought joy to the film industry. Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra will receive the Padma Vibhushan posthumously, while the late actor Satish Shah is awarded the Padma Shri. Renowned singer Alka Yagnik will be honored with the Padma Bhushan. Following the announcement, many artists from the film fraternity expressed their happiness. Actors Shekhar Suman and Meenakshi Seshadri shared their feelings and fond memories of these celebrated artists in a recent conversation.

Shekhar Suman expressed his delight at the honors received by Dharmendra and Satish Shah, stating, “This is a proud moment not just for the film industry but for the entire nation. Satish Shah was the undisputed king of comedy, unmatched in his comic timing. I worked with him on several films and shows, including ‘Dekh Bhai Dekh,’ ‘Jaan Pehchaan,’ and ‘Tere Bina Kya Jeena.’ He was not only a great artist but also a vibrant person who spread happiness around him. People still remember his work and performances.”

He further added, “Dharmendra was a person who showered love and warmth on everyone. Whenever I met him, he would embrace me with affection. He had a beautiful heart, and it’s rare to find someone like him.”

Veteran actress Meenakshi Seshadri also shared her thoughts about Dharmendra and Satish Shah. She recalled, “Very few know that I was screen-tested for Sunny Deol’s film ‘Betaab’ before Amrita Singh. Although I didn’t become part of that film, I later got the opportunity to work with Dharmendra’s production house.”

Meenakshi continued, “The film ‘Ghayal’ is one of the highlights of my career, and I received immense love from Dharmendra and the entire team. I will always be grateful for that. The most memorable moment for me was when Dharmendra Ji told me, ‘I made a mistake by not casting you in ‘Betaab,’ but I definitely want you in ‘Ghayal.'”

She also expressed her happiness over Alka Yagnik receiving the Padma Bhushan, stating, “Alka is an incredibly talented singer and truly deserves this honor. Her voice has made many films and songs special, and her recognition is a joyous occasion for the entire music industry.”

Recalling Satish Shah, Meenakshi mentioned the film ‘Aaj Ka Gundaraj,’ saying, “This film had many hilarious comedy scenes between Satish Shah and me. His comic timing and acting were phenomenal. It’s hard to find an artist like him, and I still cherish his memories.”

The Government of India has announced a total of 131 Padma Awards for 2026, including 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards.
