Patna: The mysterious death of a NEET aspirant at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Patna has shaken the entire state of Bihar. Recent developments have intensified the investigation into the case.
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has collected blood samples from 11 individuals, including the hostel owner Manish Ranjan.
Among those sampled are five members of the deceased student’s family and six other suspects. The suspects include individuals captured in CCTV footage and those who were involved in taking the student to the hospital.
According to official sources, since the student was a minor, authorities are preparing to invoke sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the case.
The FSL report revealed the presence of semen on the student’s clothing, increasing suspicion of sexual assault. The victim’s family had handed over the clothes to the police on January 10, and the forensic report was submitted to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) two days ago.
DNA samples are being collected from all suspects to establish their involvement in the crime.
The postmortem conducted at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) also confirmed the possibility of sexual assault, contradicting the police’s initial claims and raising serious questions about the early stages of the investigation.
Following revelations of negligence in the investigation, two police officers—Roshni Kumari of Chitragupt Nagar Police Station and Hemant Jha of Kadamkuan Police Station—have been suspended with immediate effect.
Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary has summoned the Director General of Police (DGP), Additional Director General (ADG), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), and the entire SIT for a review of the investigation.
