New Delhi, April 4: Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP has welcomed the arrests of TMC leaders accused of intimidating voters. The party claims these actions indicate that the elections will be fair and free.
Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s IT cell and central observer for West Bengal, announced on the social media platform ‘X’ that TMC leader Hafizul Mollah from the Deuli-1 Gram Panchayat was arrested for allegedly threatening voters, and legal action is underway against him. He noted that two other TMC leaders had previously been arrested for similar intimidation attempts.
Malviya stated that these arrests send a clear message that the Election Commission is taking a strict stance on such matters. He emphasized that this reinforces the notion that the upcoming elections will be conducted fairly and independently.
During this time, the BJP launched a sharp attack on the TMC and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The party accused the TMC of being more concerned about Muslim infiltrators while neglecting the safety and rights of Bengalis, particularly Hindu Bengalis.
Additionally, Malviya criticized the TMC for labeling Indian tennis star Leander Paes, who recently joined the BJP, as an ‘outsider.’ He asserted that Paes is a son of the soil and had to defend his identity and pride. Malviya also reminded everyone that Paes is a descendant of the renowned writer Michael Madhusudan Dutt.
Furthermore, the BJP questioned a letter written by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In this letter, Banerjee alleged that the Election Commission and the BJP were attempting to register people from other states as voters in West Bengal through Form-6.
The BJP insists that the recent arrests are proof that the Election Commission is taking strict action against intimidation-related incidents.
