Chennai, April 5: The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reinstated its spokesperson ANS Prasad. This decision comes after Prasad formally apologized for his controversial remarks suggesting that actor-politician Vijay should join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections.
The controversy erupted when Prasad publicly stated that Vijay’s association with the NDA would benefit Tamil Nadu’s interests. He further claimed that if the actor-politician decided to ally with the BJP-led coalition, they would certainly allocate him a seat.
Prasad’s comments diverged from the party’s official stance. In response, the Tamil Nadu BJP leadership initiated disciplinary action, relieving him of his responsibilities as the state spokesperson.
Insiders indicated that this action aimed to reinforce discipline within the party and prevent any misunderstandings during a time when political equations are still forming ahead of the elections. After being removed from his position, Prasad submitted a written apology, expressing regret for the controversy his statements caused.
In his letter, he acknowledged that his remarks had created unnecessary disputes and assured the party leadership that he would strictly adhere to the party’s communication protocols in the future. He also reiterated his commitment to the party’s objectives and leadership.
Acknowledging his apology, Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran announced that the disciplinary action against Prasad would be revoked, and he would be reinstated to his position.
The statement read, “State spokesperson ANS Prasad was relieved of his responsibilities on disciplinary grounds. Since he has now expressed regret and submitted an apology, the action taken against him is being withdrawn.”
The BJP leadership has also advised Prasad to exercise greater caution in public statements and to contribute effectively to the party’s election campaign.
