New Delhi, March 22 : A Delhi District Court on Wednesday summoned Bhartiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy to appear before the court in a criminal complaint filed by a worker of his own party, Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga. Bagga, who is also the BJP Spokesperson for Delhi, filed a complaint before the Court by alleging that Swamy falsely alleged and defamed him on September 28, 2021 before joining the BJP that Bagga was jailed many times for petty crimes by Mandir Marg Police Station, New Delhi and these allegations are false and have been made to harm his reputation. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmender Singh, after hearing the matter, said one Sub-Inspector of Police Station Mandir Marg, has also corroborated the version of the complainant, which clearly showed that without verifying the veracity of the statement, Swamy made the same and in view of this court, the said statement was sufficient to raise reasonable doubt about the antecedents and character of the complainant. The court said there were sufficient grounds for summoning Swamy as accused qua offence p shable under Section 500 (defamation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). XC RJ
