New Delhi, May 15: The Delhi BJP stated on Friday that the comments made by leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding the partial increase in petrol prices are making them the subject of ridicule. The AAP is attempting to mislead the public about the global impact of oil prices due to the Gulf conflict.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Shankar Kapoor remarked that even a one-rupee increase in petrol and diesel prices is naturally burdensome for common citizens. However, every citizen understands that this increase is a result of rising international oil prices, which the Indian government has managed to keep at a minimum level.
Kapoor asserted that Saurabh Bhardwaj, the Delhi convenor of AAP, lacks an understanding of international issues. If AAP leaders had conducted even a little research, they would know that petrol costs ₹105 per liter in New York and ₹92.50 per liter in Moscow when converted to Indian currency. Bhardwaj should clarify how oil purchased from Arab countries, the U.S., or Russia could be cheaper for India.
In response, Saurabh Bhardwaj accused the central government of reducing the purchase of cheaper oil from Russia under U.S. pressure, leading to rising petrol and diesel prices in the country.
Bhardwaj noted that there has recently been a ₹3 per liter increase in fuel prices, with potential for further hikes in the future. He claimed that this is just the beginning and that the public may soon face a significant impact from inflation.
He criticized the central government, stating that India is currently operating under U.S. pressure. Previously, India was providing relief to the country by purchasing cheaper crude oil from Russia, but this is no longer possible due to U.S. opposition.
Bhardwaj emphasized that the U.S. influence on the government directly affects the citizens. He pointed out that while the government urges the public to reduce foreign travel and refrain from buying gold to avoid pressure on foreign exchange reserves, large industrialists continue to invest heavily abroad.
