Kolkata, May 4: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun celebrations following early trends indicating a majority in the West Bengal elections. Leaders and party workers have gathered at the BJP office in Salt Lake, Kolkata, to mark the occasion. BJP’s Bengal in-charge, Mangal Pandey, stated that the trends are clear: the people of the state desire a ‘developed Bengal’ under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal, Mahesh Sharma, and Biplab Kumar Deb arrived at the BJP office in Kolkata this morning amid the counting of votes. Mangal Pandey also joined them at the office.
Speaking to the media, Pandey remarked, “The initial trends are very clear. The people of Bengal want a ‘developed Bengal’ under PM Narendra Modi and a ‘double-engine’ government.”
BJP MP Mahesh Sharma added, “The time has come for the change that the people of West Bengal have been expecting. Bengal will now join India’s journey of development. There was a time when Bengal seemed nearly 20 years behind India. That time is coming to an end. I extend my congratulations and best wishes to the people here.”
BJP MP Rahul Sinha also claimed victory for the party in Bengal, asserting, “There is no doubt that the government will be formed by the BJP.” Furthermore, BJP leader Shishir Bajoria commented on the election results, stating, “Everything will become clear shortly, and the BJP is set to make history with a significant majority here.”
West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya expressed confidence in the formation of the state government. He told reporters, “Initial trends are coming in. There are fluctuations, just like during the voting. Let the people enjoy this. The formation of a BJP government is certain.”
The counting of votes for the assembly elections, held in two phases, began at 8 AM on Monday. As of noon, the Election Commission reported results for 263 of the 294 assembly seats, with the BJP leading in 169 seats, while the incumbent TMC is ahead in 91 seats.
