Udaipur : Veteran congress leaders of Udaipur held the BJP responsible for the pathetic condition of the city for past 25 years now. Member of the congress working committee and former MP Raghuveer Meena and former cabinet minister Girija Vyas, in a press conference here on Thursday said that there have been mass corruption in various development projects sanctioned by the center as well as the state governments. If the congress win the municipal elections this time, an investigation would be made to expose the scams.
“It is the people’s right to know about the progress and details of all the works done so far by the Municipal corporation during all these years. It has been the BJP boards for past 25 years and congress has had never a chance for the assessment of the tasks. An enormous fund of 1225 crore has been provisioned under the Smart City project but the citizens do not know how much money has been spent so far for various works. A massive corruption is suspected in the project which would be exposed if the congress party succeeds to make the board” Meena claimed.
He further said that during 2014 to 2019 tenders worth 65 crores were floated only for roads, and the UIT also spent crores of rupees for making roads. However the conditions of the roads are so bad that commuters are suffering daily. ” Whenever congress government was in power in the state, no stones were left unturned for the development works in Udaipur but for the past five years, the citizens have been suffering due to lack of basic facilities like potable water, roads and medical facilities” Vyas said. She further added that despite the BJP governments at center and the state at the state time, the BJP board failed miserably in extending facilities to the residents.
“They have no answer where the 100 crore rupees sanctioned for housing scheme for the deprived section has gone. They dont have an explanation for the 250 crore rupees sanctioned for the conservation of the lakes. The Smart city project still remains a distant dream” Vyas alleged. The leaders assured that if the congress candidates are voted in to power and the party succeeds in forming the board, the basic facilities like roads, drinking water, sanitation would be taken in top priority.
