Kolkata, May 6: The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that anti-social elements linked to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) are masquerading as BJP workers. They claim these individuals are carrying party flags and inciting violence across various regions of the state to tarnish the BJP’s image following the elections.
In a statement released on social media, the BJP stated, “We have come to know that elements from the TMC’s so-called ‘goonda vahini’ are attempting to confuse people and create unrest by posing as BJP workers.”
The BJP leadership has made it clear that any activities disrupting law and order in the state will not be tolerated. The statement emphasized that anyone found involved in activities such as using fake identities, making threats, or taking the law into their own hands will face strict legal action.
Furthermore, the BJP claimed that the people of West Bengal have given a clear mandate for change, voting to eliminate the nexus of crime and governance. The party asserted, “The new government is committed to restoring the rule of law, ensuring accountability, and safeguarding every citizen without discrimination.”
The BJP also announced a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards violence, threats, and politically motivated activities disguised as legitimate actions, stating that the law will take its course.
Earlier in the day, BJP’s West Bengal president, Sukanta Majumdar, and opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari issued strong warnings regarding post-election violence. The Election Commission of India has also directed state authorities to take strict action against incidents of violence following the elections.
Meanwhile, West Bengal’s Director General of Police, Rajiv Kumar, reported that 200 FIRs have been filed so far, with 433 individuals arrested in connection with the violence that erupted after the election results were announced.
