
Bhubaneswar, June 27: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) expressed deep concern on Friday regarding the alleged murder of a merchant in the Remuna area of Balasore district. In response, the party has formed a team of senior leaders to assess the situation on the ground.
The deceased merchant has been identified as S.K. Hamid, a resident of Remuna. Hamid was shot dead in broad daylight on Thursday by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle at the Arad market in Balasore town.
The BJD has raised serious concerns about the prevailing law and order situation in the district following this incident.
Under the direction of BJD President Naveen Patnaik, a team has been established to visit Balasore and evaluate the ground realities. Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi, the BJD district president of Balasore, will coordinate the party’s delegation during the visit.
According to the party, the delegation will visit the crime scene and gather information by speaking with members of the Balasore market committee, local merchants, the family of the deceased, and other stakeholders to assess the current law and order situation.
Furthermore, the party has urged the police administration to conduct a fair, neutral, and timely investigation into the incident and ensure the immediate arrest of those responsible. The team will also demand effective measures from the police to curb rising crime and restore public confidence by ensuring citizen safety.
The seven-member BJD delegation includes Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi (coordinator), Gautam Budha Das (MLA and Balasore district executive president), Lekhashree Samanta Singhhar (BJD general secretary), MLA Madhav Dhada, and former BJD MLAs Swaroop Kumar Das, Sukant Kumar Nayak, and Jeevan Pradeep Dash.
The party delegation has been tasked with submitting a detailed report of their findings and recommendations to the BJD supremo after their ground-level investigation.
