Bihars Vaibhav Suryavanshi Makes History with Indian Cricket Team Selection

Patna, June 6: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made waves in IPL 2026, has secured a spot in the Indian cricket team. At just 15 years and 71 days old, he is the youngest player to join the national squad. Bihar’s Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary, congratulated him on this remarkable achievement.

Chaudhary took to his X account to express his pride, stating, “Congratulations and best wishes to Bihar’s young cricket talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi for being selected for the Indian cricket team at just 15 years and 71 days. This historic success is a result of his talent, hard work, and dedication. Vaibhav has made all of Bihar proud. I am confident he will perform excellently for the Indian team and bring glory to our country and state. Wishing him a bright future.”

Suryavanshi stunned the world with his explosive batting while playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2026. Over 16 matches, he scored 776 runs, including one century and five half-centuries, earning him the Orange Cap as the highest run-scorer. He was also named the Emerging Player of the Season and set a record for the most sixes in a single IPL season, hitting 72 sixes.

Given his outstanding performance, his selection for the Indian team was widely anticipated. On Saturday, the BCCI announced the squad for the T20 series against Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games 2026, which included Vaibhav’s name. If he plays, he will become the youngest player to represent the Indian men’s cricket team, a record currently held by Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 16 years and 205 days in 1989.
