Bihars Solar Loan Fair Promises Free Electricity and Lower Bills

Patna, May 7: A solar loan fair was held on Wednesday at the Electric Division office in Bihar Sharif, Nalanda district, to connect and inform residents about the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. The event was inaugurated by District Magistrate Kundan Kumar, DDC Shubham Kumar, and Chief Engineer Manishkant.

Many attendees applied for the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. Officials stated that residents could eliminate their electricity bills by installing solar units on their rooftops with loans offered at very low interest rates.

District Magistrate Kundan Kumar addressed the consumers, emphasizing that installing solar units is not just a way to reduce electricity bills, but also a significant step towards serving the nation and protecting the environment. India imports 80% of its crude oil. To achieve the dream of a self-reliant India, we must adopt more solar energy. Installing one solar unit can reduce carbon footprints equivalent to planting 100 trees in a year. As a nation that worships the rising and setting sun, we now have the opportunity to honor the sun daily by harnessing its energy at home.

Chief Engineer Manishkant explained that under this scheme, individuals can become both energy consumers and producers. A subsidy of ₹78,000 is available for installing solar panels up to three kilowatts. The subsidy amounts to ₹30,000 for one kilowatt and ₹60,000 for two kilowatts, with an average installation cost of ₹60,000 per kilowatt. For those lacking funds, banks are offering loans at interest rates of 5 to 6%. Basic documents such as an ID, photo, house receipt, and electricity bill are required for loans up to ₹200,000.

Executive Engineer Vikas Kumar reported that 88 loans were approved during the fair, with over 100 new consumers registering. In the first phase, the goal is to install solar units in 2,000 homes in the non-BPL category and 10,000 homes in the BPL category. The state government will provide free solar panels for BPL families.

Regional Manager Vipul Saurabh of Bihar Gramin Bank stated that joining the solar scheme benefits individuals and the nation. Given the current global conflicts, energy independence is crucial. Nalanda district has 104 branches where residents can access this scheme.

Participant Pratik Raj from Bihar Sharif remarked, “This scheme significantly contributes to making not just individuals, but the entire nation self-reliant.” Residents Dharmaraj Prasad from Katrisarai and Sandeep Kumar from Jhinganagar expressed their satisfaction with the loans received, stating that their electricity bills would nearly be zero, encouraging more people to join the initiative.
