Bihar Police Uncovers Cyber Fraud Gang, Two Arrested

Patna, May 24: In a significant breakthrough against cybercrime, Patna police have dismantled an organized cyber fraud gang, arresting two suspects. The Cyber Police Station seized a large number of mobile phones, ATM cards, checkbooks, laptops, and banking documents during the operation. Initial investigations revealed suspicious transactions amounting to crores of rupees.

DSP Nitish Chandra Dhariya stated that there had been numerous complaints regarding cybercriminals luring individuals with promises of government scheme benefits and easy loans. The accused would open current accounts in the victims’ names and subsequently retain the passbooks, ATM cards, bank details, SIM cards, and other essential documents. These accounts were later exploited for cyber fraud and online scams.

Given the seriousness of the situation, a special team from the Cyber Police Station was formed under the supervision of the Western City Police Superintendent. The team, led by DSP and Cyber Police Station Chief Nitish Chandra Dhariya, initiated an investigation based on technical and human intelligence.

During the investigation, police received a tip-off about cybercriminal activities being conducted from a house in the Jakriapur area of the Ramkrishnanagar police station jurisdiction. Acting on this information, the police team raided the location and arrested two suspects. The arrested individuals were identified as Sanjay Kumar from Nalanda district and Abhishek Kumar from Nawada district.

During the raid, police recovered 11 mobile phones, one laptop, 12 ATM cards, 13 checkbooks, and one passbook from the suspects. Authorities are currently examining the seized documents and digital devices, which have revealed evidence of large-scale financial transactions through multiple bank accounts.

DSP Nitish Chandra Dhariya mentioned that a thorough investigation into the suspects’ network is underway. Initial inquiries suggest the involvement of other individuals, including a woman. The police are working to determine which states the gang targeted and how many victims were defrauded. Interrogation of the suspects is ongoing, and further actions are being planned.
