Purnia, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : Bihar police took significant action against illegal drug trafficking on Tuesday, arresting a married couple in the village of Lataraha, located within the Barharakothi police jurisdiction of Purnia district.
Authorities seized approximately 104.53 grams of brown sugar, commonly referred to as ‘smack’ in local parlance, from their residence. The estimated value of the confiscated narcotics is around ₹20.10 lakh in the international market.
The couple has been identified as Guddu Yadav, also known as Mukesh Kumar, and his wife, Kanchan Kumari. Police suspect that their home was being used as a storage and supply point for drug distribution in the surrounding areas.
The operation was initiated following reports of suspicious drug trafficking activities in the village. Under the direction of Purnia’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), a special team was formed, led by Ajit Pratap Singh Chauhan, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Dhamdaha.
Circle Officer Mohan Kumar Sharma acted as the magistrate during the operation, with support from local station house officers, district intelligence unit personnel, and other police officials.
During the search, the team discovered the suspected narcotic substance, leading to the immediate arrest of the couple. The seized items have been placed in police custody for further investigation.
Investigating officers are currently questioning the suspects to trace the source of the seized drugs and identify others involved in the supply and distribution chain. Authorities are also working to determine the intended destination of this drug shipment and whether the couple is linked to a larger drug trafficking network operating in the Seemanchal region.
SDPO Ajit Pratap Singh Chauhan stated that the campaign against drug trafficking will continue, and efforts are underway to identify other suspected suppliers and accomplices based on information gathered during the investigation.
