Muzaffarpur, September 3 (Daily Kiran) : Bihar’s Health Minister Nishant Kumar visited Muzaffarpur on Thursday to inaugurate a state-of-the-art 12-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, located within the premises of Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH).
During the inauguration, which involved a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, the minister also announced plans for a new 30-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) ward to improve treatment facilities for critically ill children.
Stringent security measures were in place during the minister’s visit. Following the inauguration, Kumar conducted a thorough inspection of various departments within the cancer hospital. He reviewed the availability of medications, diagnostic facilities, modern medical equipment, and the presence of doctors.
Kumar emphasized the need for high-quality healthcare services and instructed medical and administrative officials to ensure that no compromises are made on patient care.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, he stated that the Muzaffarpur Cancer Hospital would be further enhanced with modern technology and comprehensive treatment facilities in the coming days. The government’s aim, he noted, is to ensure that patients suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses in North Bihar do not have to travel to Patna or outside the state for better treatment.
Kumar stressed the importance of providing quality healthcare close to home for patients. He added that the state government is continuously working to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across Bihar and improve access to medical services.
Efforts are underway to modernize healthcare facilities from rural areas to medical colleges, ensuring timely medical advice and effective treatment for every citizen.
Additionally, the Bihar government launched a campaign titled “Testing and Treatment Medicine at Your Doorstep” on Wednesday. This initiative aims to facilitate early detection and timely treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) throughout the state.
ASHA workers and facilitators, along with Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), will conduct door-to-door surveys, prepare family folders and CBAC forms, identify high-risk individuals, compile patient lists, and encourage patients to adhere to prescribed medications and follow-up schedules.
